THE BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN OF LOŠINJ

The souvenir was inspired by the inseparable bond between Lošinj and bottlenose dolphins that was formed many years ago.

More specifically, the Lošinj archipelago is a habitat of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), and it is estimated that approximately one hundred specimens inhabit the archipelago.

The fountain erected on the main town square back in 1960 in order to mark the arrival of the running water from the Vransko Lake to Mali Lošinj, dominated by the sculpture of two bottlenose dolphins, bears witness to the long-lasting bond between Lošinj and bottlenose dolphins. Since 1987, bottlenose dolphins inhabiting the Lošinj archipelago have been systematically studied, and in 1993 Lošinj started celebrating the Dolphins Day.

The Bottlenose Dolphin of Lošinj is a handmade decorative item – a crochet dolphin made from a type of thread whose texture is such that allows one to create different shades of light and dark grey to depict the real, natural colour of the bottlenose dolphin, i.e., the reflections of the sun on its skin that can be seen every time it emerges from or jumps out of the water.

The product has an anti-allergenic and anti-bacterial stuffing, and its size (length: 20 cm) makes it a perfect take-away souvenir from Lošinj or a gift for those who have yet to visit Lošinj.

The Bottlenose Dolphin of Lošinj is a brand-new product that has not been on offer yet. It has been designed and made especially for this occasion in order to become a recognisable product and souvenir of the island of Lošinj.

The product is fully handmade using crochet.
