Contessa Maris a sailboat - Špaga Petlja

Contessa Maris – a decorative item made from driftwood and macramé in the shape of a sailboat
Contessa Maris, a decorative item in the shape of a sailboat, consists of a macramé piece made from 100% recycled cotton rope and a driftwood item found along the coast of Lošinj. The name is a combination of the word Contessa, which is a reference to the Contessa Hilda sailing ship, known as the Queen of Lošinj Sailing Ships, and the Latin word maris, which denotes ‘the sea’ or ‘living by the sea’. It is intended to highlight the product’s connection with the maritime tradition of the island of Lošinj as well as to emphasize the importance of the sea in the life and identity of the local community. A sailboat is also the central symbol on the coat of arms of the town of Mali Lošinj.

After retiring, Vesna, a salesperson by occupation, finally found more time for handicraft, and very soon discovered that it has a truly relaxing and calming effect on her. As is the case with most other small producers, she made the first objects for herself, her family members and friends. It was not long after that the first orders started arriving as well, so she opened a household-based handicraft business in 2022. Together with Lara, her daughter-in-law, Vesna makes crochet and macramé bags, baskets, jewellery, and other decorative items. On social networks, they are a well-known duo that goes by the name of Špaga & Petlja.
