Time: 7.11.2025.,at 7 p.m.
Location: Mali Lošinj, Museum of Apoxyomenos
At the Museum of Apoxyomenos, the charismatic and uniquely expressive jazz musician Darko Jurković Charlie from Rijeka, a multiple award-winning artist, will take the stage. He is the only multi-guitarist in the region and on this occasion will present his solo evening program.
Guitarist Darko Jurković Charlie is known for his unique “two hands tapping” guitar technique, where both hands are used on the neck of the guitar to produce sound—often playing two guitars simultaneously—leaving audiences both amazed and delighted.
He is one of the most awarded jazz guitarists in Croatia, a multiple Porin Award winner in 2005, 2016, and 2025 for Best Performance in the “Jazz Music” category, as well as a recipient of the Status Award, having been named Best Jazz Guitarist nine times. In 2022, he received the Croatian Composers’ Society annual Miroslav Sedak Benčić Award for his creative contributions to jazz, particularly for the album Trio, Solo, Duo.
His career has been marked by collaborations with numerous top domestic and international musicians. He was a long-time member of the Small Big Band Europlane Orchestra, with whom he recorded three albums, including one with the legendary American saxophonist Herb Geller. For ten years, he performed with a Czech trio featuring double bassist František Uhlíř and drummer Jaromír Helešic, touring across Europe. He was also part of the notable Rijeka-based Quartet Sensitive, which, although not performing original compositions, focused on Brazilian bossa nova.
However, Charlie’s musical scope goes beyond jazz. In recent years, he has also been active at music festivals. For instance, in 2024 he arranged the song “Noć” by Nevia Rigutto, which won Best Song at the MIK Festival, and for which he received the Radio Istra Award for Best Arrangement. At the Canzonette Fiumane festival, Tina Vukov performed his composition “I me manca” with lyrics by Laura Marchig, which won the award for Best Interpretation.
Tonight’s concert is a true musical gem—a treat that will delight all true jazz enthusiasts and offer them an unforgettable experience.
